Gin originated in the Netherlands in the 17th century and is named after the French word for Juniper. The most common gin in the world is English Dry gin. Dutch gin, also known as jenever or genever, is a distinctly different drink from the English-style in that it is distilled with barley and sometimes aged in wood, giving it a slight resemblance to whisky.
