Surrounded by some ninety acres of vineyard nestled
in the rolling hills of the
Mudgee district of New South Wales, lies the Simon Gilbert Winery.
During
the 1990's Simon Gilbert,
a fifth generation winemaker,
came to the Mudgee district
to make wines that would reflect
the subtlety and depth of character associated
with grapes grown under cooler
conditions. Having demonstrated
the potential of the region
for producing wines of the highest quality and in line with
his vision he set about building
a new winery in 1999. Incorporating state-of-the-art winemaking
technologies,
the winery was completed
in 2000.
Today, under the guidance
of a professional management
team and the wine-making
leadership of
Andrew Ewart, a graduate
of the University of California
Davis and one of Australia's
leading winemakers, the Simon Gilbert winery
produces premium and super-premium
wines. Drawing on a rich
academic and practical wine-making
background spanning some thirty years
and three continents, Andrew
guides his team to focus
on sourcing fruit from the
wineries own private vineyards and those of a select
few viticulturalists from
the Mudgee and Orange districts,
to produce wines that capture
the essence of the cool climate growing conditions
and ideal soil structures of
these unique New South Wales regions. |
