Bertrand Ambroise produces masculine, modern yet authentic, powerful Burgundy. He has assembled an impressive collection of sites in Nuits-St-Georges, Vosne-Romanee and Corton. The majority of his vines are 40 to 50 years old, meaning that the yields are reduced but the concentration in each grape is increased. This is combined with Ambroise's deep, powerful, yet refined style of wine. The reds are neither fined nor filtered and are matured in barriques of which 75-100 percent are new oak. Consequendly, his wines are more iron grip than velvet glove, but they are something to behold for those who really enjoy the more forceful style of modern Burgundians. '...With sweeter blackberry aromas and flavors, and a somewhat richer, gentler initial palate impression than most of the Ambroise 2005s, this offers complementary elements of black chocolate, coconut, and singed meat. Still amazingly dark and powerful, this Pinot packs a rolling block of a finish...' (Wine Advocate, June 2007)
