Konteki "Pearls of Simplicity" Junmai Daiginjo Sake
For me, this pick is personal. I’ve always wanted to dig deeper into my Asian identity and find the perfect bridge between my heritage and my love for wine. The natural intersection of those two worlds is Sake. It has been a beautiful journey learning to love this category, and with our upcoming class (Back to the Future: Sake Time Travel), just around the corner, I couldn’t think of a better bottle to highlight than Konteki ‘Pearls of Simplicity’ Junmai Daiginjo.
I chose this specific bottle because it’s the ultimate antidote to the common “sake misconception.” If you’ve ever been intimidated by the category, or perhaps had a bad experience with versions served piping hot, this bottle can be your turning point. Brewed in the historic Fushimi district of Kyoto using some of Japan’s purest spring water, this sake comes in an approachable 300ml size that is elegant and easy to enjoy.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, this sake is incredibly inviting, with a bouquet of delicate white flowers, fresh Asian pear, and a subtle touch of sweet honeydew. The palate is remarkably silky and smooth, balanced by a bright, crisp acidity that keeps every sip feeling light and refreshed. It concludes with a sophisticated hint of anise and a distinct minerality that leaves the palate clean. To truly let those elegant floral aromas shine, I recommend serving this well-chilled in a white wine glass.
