What We’re Drinking: Colpetrone Sagrantino di Montefalco 2015

I love Italian wine, and when I find a hidden gem, I must share it!

Let me introduce you to Sagrantino from the rolling hills of Umbria, near Montefalco. It stayed a local secret for centuries, but in the late 1900s producers started crafting it in a dry style of exceptional quality, helping Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG earn its place on the map.

Colpetrone Memoira Sagrantino is a great example. It’s rich with dark fruit, spice, and a hint of cocoa, with firm, structured tannins. Powerful, yet smooth and polished. It’s delicious on its own, but really shines with grilled meats like steak, lamb, or smoky sausages. I’ve especially enjoyed it with picanha (from our Cheese Shop next door!)

If you’ve never tried Sagrantino, this is a great place to start. Grilling season is almost here. Grab a bottle and give it a go! Think Brazilian steakhouse meets the Italian countryside.
