What We’re Drinking: Andrea Felici Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi

August 7, 2025

Have you ever opened your fridge, stared at it long enough for the alarm to go off, and then closed it without taking anything out to eat? It’s the same container of hummus that’s been there for a week, the yogurt you know you should eat but can’t muster up the courage to check if it’s grown mold, or the leftover pasta which just isn’t going to cut it. You exist in a world with plenty of options, too many maybe, and none of them are appealing. What a privileged and annoying problem, if you can even call it that.

After 18 years of working next to (and above) the France 44 liquor store, I have that very feeling as I roam the aisles looking for something new and interesting to drink. Thank goodness for their amazing staff and their willingness to entertain my picky beginner’s mind. So, I asked a member of the wine staff, Emily, (she has great taste!) for a recommendation. Told her I was bored of all of my summer wine choices.

And that’s when I met the Andrea Felici Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. It’s hiding out there in the Italian whites, all unassuming with its cute little illustration on the label. It’s the one! The refreshing, delightful white wine for a hazy summer day. You don’t need my tasting notes, it’s just a breath of fresh air during a smokey summer blighted with a swooning baseball team and endless road construction.
