Despite the snow, spring is almost here. With that in mind I decided to share one of my favorite recipes to make on a nice spring or summer day when the weather is perfect for grilling. These simple garlic honey glazed wings are sweet, spicy and always delicious.

Ingredients

The Wings:

  • 12 chicken wings ~2 lbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder

The Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 4-6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Green onions
bowl of seasoned raw chicken wings
small stainless steel pot of dark brown glaze

Directions

  1. Preheat your grill to 400º F.
  2. Pat your wings dry with a paper towel.
  3. Mix the dry seasonings together in a small bowl. Add the wings to a large mixing bowl and toss them in the dry seasonings until thoroughly coated.
  4. Lightly oil your grill grates and place the wings on the grill. Space them out so that none are touching; this will help get the skin nice and crispy.
  5. Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through. Cook until crispy and the internal temperature reads 165º F on a meat thermometer.
  6. While the wings are cooking, add the honey, soy sauce, garlic, gochugaru and cornstarch to a saucepan on medium heat. Once the mixture comes to a simmer, lower the heat and let reduce for another ~5 minutes or until thick enough to coat the back of a spoon (see photo above).
  7. Remove the wings from your grill and place them in a clean, heat-proof bowl. Toss the wings in the glaze until each wing is fully coated with glaze.
  8. Garnish with the sesame seeds and green onions and serve immediately.
