While I enjoy a glass of wine with my meal, I don’t like to drink too much. But there are times, especially when celebrating with family, I find I always like a drink in my hand. Thank goodness for the white wine Spritzer. This weekend, I’m thinking about my dad, my closest friend and confidante, and wines that he will enjoy.
So my first Father’s Day suggestion is the Blanville Cabernet Sauvignon from 2023 ($19.99). This bold, fruit-forward French wine is highly drinkable regardless of the season. Indeed, I was introduced to the reds of Languedoc the summer my family spent in Sète visiting my great uncle. With nights enjoying local produce, local sausages, and late nights on the rooftop terrace with my dad and my uncle playing guitar. Highly recommend. As a gift for your dad to be enjoyed with our house-made sausages, cheeseboards, or whatever grazing appetizers your dad likes best.
My next suggestion is a wine we shared at Christmas to go with our cheese course, Zevenwacht 7even Chenin Blanc 2025 ($19.99). This white wine is also perfect for summer time. The hints of citrus and peach really shine, and what I love about it is that it also goes well on ice, in a spritzer, with a pinch of ginger, and a twist of any citrus fruit. A refreshing beverage when you come off the golf course.
